Childhood home of HM The Queen Mother, wife of King George VI, Glamis Castle near Forfar, is the family seat of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorn. It is also the birthplace of HM The Queen’s sister, the late Princess Margaret. The castle dates from the 1300’s although was extensively rebuilt in the 1700’s.
Travelling through the stunning and stark scenery of the Cairngorms National Park, also known as Royal Deeside, is the Highland village of Braemar famous for its Highland Games attended by the Royal Family.
Nearby lies Balmoral Castle It has been the summer holiday retreat of the Royal Family since its purchase in 1852 by Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria. The grounds and gardens of the castle are open to the public during the summer months unless the Royal Family are in residence.
Crathie Kirk is the small Church of Scotland parish church in the village of Crathie best known for being the regular place of worship of the Royal Family when they are in residence at Balmoral Castle.
